ADUs, which can be attached to or behind a main house, address issues of affordable housing and housing availability by providing smaller units with everything someone needs, including a kitchen, bathroom, and sleeping quarters. ADUs tap into existing utility lines, and the smaller spaces are more energy efficient, which means that they are cheaper for tenants and more eco-friendly.     Space to Create is a state led program to create affordable housing and work spaces for people in creative industries. To be eligible for the program, areas must be state-certified creative districts, have populations of less than 50,000 in rural areas, and strong local support and leadership, which have been crucial to moving projects forward. Projects are supported by a nonprofit developer and federal low-income tax credits provide the primary funding source. The homes are constructed in partnership with the county, the school district, and Habitat for Humanity. The homes are lined with solar panels and operate using only electricity. The nonprofit owns an 8-unit residence for youth 18-24 who have aged out of the foster care system or are at risk for becoming homeless. The home provides a safe and supportive option where youth can transition to adulthood and have access to help navigating systems, like education and employment. The organization has begun to provide mental health care services as well, with two therapists on staff.
